Modern 'earbuds' have been trialed by Chennai road Police to help them block out road noise.
Chennai is experiencing a sharp rise in noise pollution as a result of growing traffic congestion. Vehicle noise pollution is the primary factor affecting traffic police officers' hearing. Noise levels from automobiles can range from 90 to 150 dB. Traffic police officers endure a great deal of stress in addition to health problems as a result of the loud noises they encounter on a daily basis.
In light of this, the police, who are responsible for overseeing traffic on a daily basis, have developed innovative 'earbuds' that can be worn in the ears to assist people tune out noise.
In a trial, 20 police officers were given 'iPads' on Friday in Nungambakkam. P. Sudhakar, Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Chennai Police Department, turned these over to the police.
Mahesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of the Transport Division (North), Assistant Commissioner K. Baskaran, Deputy Commissioner V. Baskaran, and others were present at the event.
These 'i-buds', made by an American company, can lower noise levels by up to 25%, according to police officials. According to police officials, when traffic police officers wear them while on duty, they can concentrate on their task without being distracted by noise because they are specifically made to facilitate smooth communication and cut down on superfluous noise.
These 'iPads' are being made available to all traffic police officers, he added.
